    • Résumé :
Few processes are as important for environmental geochemistry as the interplay between the oxidation and reduction of dissolved and solid species. The knowledge of the redox conditions is most important to predict the geochemical behaviour of a great number of components, the mobilities of which are directly or indirectly controlled by redox processes. The understanding of the chemical mechanisms responsible for the establishment of measurable potentials is the major key for the evaluation and sensitive interpretation of data. This book is suitable for advanced undergraduates as well as for all scientists dealing with the measurement and interpretation of redox conditions in the natural environment.

      Biographie:
Joachim Schüring Born 1962, he studied geology at the universities of Würzburg, London and Tübingen. He obtained his doctoral degree at the University of Bremen where he continues his research in the section "Hydro-geology and Geochemistry". Horst D. Schulz Born 1942, he studied geology at the Technical University of Aachen and at the Free University of Berlin and received his doctoral degree in 1970. Between 1970 and 1986 he participated in various projects in the field of aquatic geochemistry at the University of Kiel and since 1986 he is professor of geochemistry and hydrogeology at the University of Bremen. Walter R. Fischer Born 1942, he became a chemist at the Technical University of Hannover. From there he moved on to the Technical University Berlin where he was offered a dissertation project at the Institute of Soil Sciences. He finished the doctoral thesis at the Technical University Munich where he continued his research to become a professor at the University of Hohenheim. Since 1994 he is Head of the Institute of Soil Sciences at the University of Hannover. Jürgen Böttcher Born 1955, he studied Agricultural Sciences at the University of Göttingen, where he finally obtained his doctoral degree. He continued his research during his work at the Geological Survey of Lower Saxony and the Federal Institute of Geosciences and Natural Resources. Since 1993, he is professor for soil ecology at the Institute of Soil Sciences at the University of Hannover. Wim H.M. Duijnisveld Born 1950, he studied agrohydrology at Wageningen University, Netherlands. From there he moved to Germany to work with the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) in Hannover and used his research results for a doctoral thesis in Soil Sciences at the Technical University Berlin. Since 1993 he is Head of the section "Soil Water Regime and Solute Balance" at the BGR.
