One Doubtful Hour is a novel by Ella Hepworth Dixon, first published in 1904. The story is set in London and revolves around the lives of two women, Lilian Bellamy and her friend, Miss Lena Ashby. Lilian is a successful novelist who has just finished writing her latest book, while Lena is a talented artist who is struggling to make ends meet. The two women are very close, but their friendship is put to the test when Lilian meets a charming young man named Arthur Barrington. Despite her reservations, Lilian falls in love with Arthur and agrees to marry him, but Lena is not convinced that he is the right man for her friend. As Lilian's wedding day approaches, Lena becomes increasingly concerned about Arthur's true intentions and sets out to uncover the truth about him.
