      • Résumé :
Niccol? Machiavelli's The Prince remains one of the most influential works ever written on political power, leadership, and the realities of statecraft. Written during the turbulence of Renaissance Italy, Machiavelli's famous treatise examines how rulers gain, maintain, and exercise power. Drawing on examples from ancient history as well as the politics of his own time, he analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of princes, the role of fortune and strategy, and the difficult choices leaders must sometimes make to preserve their states. Rather than presenting an idealized vision of government, Machiavelli confronts politics as it actually operates. He argues that successful rulers must understand human nature, act decisively in moments of crisis, and balance mercy with firmness in order to secure stability and authority. For centuries The Prince has been studied as a foundational text in political philosophy and the theory of leadership. Its insights into power, ambition, and political strategy continue to provoke debate and reflection among readers interested in history, politics, and the nature of authority....

Machiavelli also wrote plays, histories, and political commentary, establishing himself as one of the central figures of Renaissance intellectual life....
