      • Résumé :
Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772) was a Swedish scientist, philosopher, and theologian whose work spans multiple disciplines, including engineering, natural science, and religious thought. In the later part of his life, he turned his attention to theology, producing a series of writings that present a detailed account of spiritual realities and their relationship to the natural world. His theological works, including Heaven and Hell, Divine Love and Wisdom, and The Last Judgment, outline a system in which the spiritual and material realms are interconnected. Last Judgment Posthumous forms part of this broader body of work, extending his interpretations of judgment, the afterlife, and the structure of spiritual existence. Swedenborg's writings have influenced both religious and philosophical discussions and continue to be studied for their distinctive approach to theology....

        Biographie:
Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772) was a Swedish scientist, philosopher, and theologian whose later writings established him as one of the most influential figures in Christian mysticism and esoteric religious thought. Trained in the sciences and active as an engineer and inventor, Swedenborg underwent a profound spiritual transformation in midlife, after which he devoted himself to documenting his visionary experiences of heaven, hell, and the spiritual structure of reality. His theological works-including Heaven and Hell, Divine Love and Wisdom, and Last Judgment-present a systematic and highly detailed account of the afterlife and the inner meaning of scripture. Swedenborg's ideas laid the foundation for the New Church movement and have continued to shape discussions of metaphysics, spiritual psychology, and the relationship between the material and spiritual worlds....

        Sommaire:
A theological work concerned with judgment, spiritual order, and the structure of the afterlife, Last Judgment Posthumous presents Emanuel Swedenborg's interpretation of the final judgment as a spiritual rather than purely material event. The text develops Swedenborg's view that judgment occurs within the spiritual world and reflects the inward state of individuals rather than an external or visible transformation of the physical world. Drawing on his broader theological framework, he describes the processes by which spiritual conditions are revealed and ordered, presenting judgment as an ongoing reality rather than a singular historical moment. As a posthumous work, the text extends themes found in Swedenborg's earlier writings, including the nature of heaven and hell, the relationship between the material and spiritual realms, and the interpretation of scriptural passages. The result is a continuation of his systematic approach to theology, combining exposition with interpretive commentary....
