- Livre Littérature Générale
Résumé :
D. H. Lawrence's The Sisters is a powerful novella that explores the emotional tensions, desires, and unspoken conflicts within a working-class English family. Written during the early period of Lawrence's literary career, the work reflects the author's deep interest in the psychological forces that shape relationships and identity. Set in an industrial Midlands community, the story follows the complex lives of two sisters whose personalities and ambitions place them on different paths. Through their struggles with love, independence, and social expectations, Lawrence examines the pressures of family loyalty and the search for personal freedom. Lawrence's writing combines vivid realism with penetrating psychological insight, capturing the subtle dynamics of family life and the emotional currents that often lie beneath ordinary conversation. The narrative reflects the author's broader concern with human relationships, individuality, and the constraints imposed by social convention. The Sisters reveals many of the themes that would later appear in Lawrence's major novels, offering readers a compelling glimpse into the early development of one of the twentieth century's most influential literary voices....

This novel follows generations of the Brangwen family, focusing on the sexual dynamics of, and relations between, the characters. Lawrence's frank treatment of sexual desire and the power plays within relationships....
