At six foot two, Dr. Gordon B. Loomis drew respect not because of his physical stature, but through his love of people and nature. He devoted his life to the service of others while taking refuge in nature to escape the stress of life. His religious mind found succour in the quietude of the forest. He admired those who understood all that it could teach and was interested in being taught by those who better understood the natural world around him. He believed that, in many ways, the original peoples of North America had visions superior to his own spirituality. In Chief Copper Stone, Dr. Loomis hints that we, with our European-based wisdom, can learn much from those we deem to be below us.
