      • Résumé :
A late adventure in H. Rider Haggard's Allan Quatermain cycle, uniting the explorer with Ayesha of the earlier She romances. First published in 1921, She and Allan brings together two of Haggard's most enduring creations in a narrative that moves between imperial adventure, lost-world romance, and the supernatural. Allan Quatermain is drawn once more into a remote African setting, where encounters with unfamiliar tribes, ancient rites, and the enigmatic Ayesha complicate his role as observer and participant. The novel occupies a distinctive place within Haggard's fiction, extending the Quatermain adventures beyond their earlier expeditionary framework while reintroducing the mystical and philosophical elements associated with Ayesha. Themes of immortality, memory, and authority are set against the conventions of late imperial romance, producing a work that reflects both the continuity and the evolution of Haggard's imaginative world. This edition presents the original text of the 1921 work, newly typeset for clarity and consistency, and intended for readers seeking a stable and readable modern presentation of a classic adventure narrative....

        Biographie:
        H. Rider Haggard (1856-1925) was an English novelist associated with the late Victorian and Edwardian adventure tradition. He is best known for creating the character Allan Quatermain and for the novel She, both of which became foundational works in the development of lost-world and imperial adventure fiction. Drawing on his experiences in southern Africa, Haggard produced narratives that combine exploration, romance, and speculative elements, and his work has remained continuously in print....

He married Mariana Louisa Margitson in 1880, with whom he had two daughters. Haggard's parents were William Meybohm Rider Haggard and Ella Doveton. Andrew Lang, born March 31, 1844, in Selkirk, United Kingdom, was a Scottish poet, novelist, and literary critic, best known for collecting folk and fairy tales. A scholar with a broad range of interests, Lang contributed to anthropology and was a notable figure at the University of St Andrews, where the Andrew Lang lectures were named in his honor. Lang's marriage to Leonora Blanche Alleyne in 1875 marked a personal chapter in his life. His legacy is deeply embedded in children's literature, with his fairy tale collections remaining influential. Lang passed away on July 20, 1912, in Banchory, United Kingdom....
