Présentation Neri Oxman - Mediated Matter de Antonelli Paola Format Beau livre
- Livre Beaux arts
Résumé :
Oxman's work is groundbreaking for its solid technical and scientific basis, its rigorous and yet daring experimentation, its visionary philosophy, and its unquestionable attention to formal elegance. This book-which will accompany a monographic exhibition of her work set to open in February 2020 at the Museum of Modern Art-will highlight the interdisciplinary nature of the designer's practice by including essays from experts in those fields. It will also place her work within the historical context of the museum, from the 1934 exhibition Machine Art to 2008's Design and the Elastic Mind-in order to demonstrate that Oxman's contributions are not only faithful to MoMA's commitment to organic design, but it also allows us to question and redefine established ideas of modernism that have been held as true and unchanging since the founding of the institution. The work that Oxman has developed to date warrants a large-scale public exhibition and a full publication at this early stage in her career because her radically new discoveries have and will continue to transform contemporary design.
Exhibition opens February 2020.
Biographie:
In her 10-year career, architect Neri Oxman has become an established and influential protagonist internationally, pioneering not only new ideas for objects and buildings, but also new construction techniques and frameworks for interdisciplinary collaborations. Recognizing that humans have not been able to replicate the intricate structures found in nature, she has dedicated her career to researching and developing new fabrication materials that change and adapt to the elements. Oxman, along with her team at the Mediated Matter Group, have coined the term 'material ecology' to explain the process of bringing together matter, fabrication, and environment in order to produce objects and surfaces that are informed by the natural world. Defined as the study and design of products and processes integrating environmentally aware computational form-generation and digital fabrication, material ecology operates at the intersection of Biology, Material Science & Engineering, and Computer Science with emphasis on environmentally informed digital design and fabrication.
