Présentation Salt Water Format Broché
- Livre Littérature Générale
Résumé :
Like the literary fiction equivalent of a deep-tissue massage... When a man's obsession with solitude takes him too far, can he rely on his terrified wife to save him? Can a thief who has taken everything from you ever make amends? How many tears can one man shed? Can the world's most famous chef rely on his invisibility to save him from a violent attack? These are some of the questions posed by Sef Hughes in Salt Water. This short story collection takes you to the curious extremities of human relationships. Fuelled by revenge, loss, death, and love, these unusual stories are sometimes haunting, at other times bizarre, and always riveting. Provocative short stories by a writer who has a unique mind and, for my money, a brilliant one. A 'community-minded' murderer has a theory that will clean up society and save his clients from 'true death'. A narcissistic mother embroils her daughter in a plan to achieve immortality through gorilla acts of kindness. A long weekend in Barcelona turns into a delirious journey to the seabed. Salt Water and Other Short Stories is one of the most impressive debut works I've ever read by an independent author....
Biographie:
Sef Hughes was born in Stirling, has lived in Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Pittsburgh, Amsterdam and Eindhoven, and is currently hiding out in York. A version of his short story Lost Cargo was published in Litro USA in 2015, and The Straw Hat appeared in the Dream Issue of Popshot Quarterly in 2018. Salt Water is his first collection of short stories. His debut novel, The Hate Extractor, was published in 2025....
Sommaire:
Dark, heartbreaking, funny, twisted, bleak, and hopeful in unequal measure: 11 imaginative short stories that take you to the curious extremities of human relationships. Ranging from the mysterious to macabre, Salt Water is a delicious short story collection of astonishing variety. Described as a 'page-turning assault on the senses' and 'the literary fiction equivalent of a deep-tissue massage', the stories unravel, twist and surprise, taking the reader to unexpected depths. In this debut collection, Hughes merges beautifully crafted lyrical prose, hard-boiled dialogue and gothic imagery to disorientate, disturb and, ultimately, delight readers. Fuelled by revenge, loss, death, and love, this unusual collection of intriguing stories is sometimes haunting, at other times bizarre, and always riveting. ...
