Translating the Qur??nic Mutash?bih?t 'i.e. polysemic' verses adopts a new linguistic methodology for analyzing Qur??nic texts through the use of Vermeer's Skopostheorie and Nord's Functional Approach, in three selected English translations of the Qur??n. This book investigates how multi-layered meanings can account for the ambiguity in the semantic value, which is inherent in Qur??nic discourse. The problematic translation of Qur??nic Mutash?bih?t provides: ?An overview of the previous attempts on the pitfalls of translating the Qur??n ?A detailed Lexico-semantic analysis of 25 Qur??nic Mutash?bih?t verses ?Assessing the appropriateness of the theories adopted in evaluating the translation ?How the analysis can be used to disambiguate the loaded meanings of Mutash?bih?t. This book is a new progression in Qur??nic studies and Translation which bridges the gap between two different languages and cultures by providing a systematic analysis of problematic translations from Arabic into English.
