The great majority of architectural productions attempt to satisfy our everyday needs and to maintain the status quo of this basic requirement, an effort which is generally dubbed the state of the art. But architects of all times have simultaneously attempted to leave these limitations behind them and to propose entirely innovative paths, challenging the status quo of their environments and creating something entirely new. During the 1960s and 1970s in particular utopias served as a source of inspiration for many architects. In the following decades utopias continued to be a relevant issue in the humanities, but now tended to be pushed aside in architectural discourse. Biographie:
Die Abteilung Wohnbau und Entwerfen am Institut f?r Architektur und Entwerfen der Technischen Universit?t Wien wird seit 1995 von Prof. Cuno Brullmann geleitet und versteht sich als offener Ort eines universit?ren Lehrens, Forschens und Experimentierens, an dem Unterrichtende, Studierende, G?ste und Aussenstehende gleichberechtigt an der Herstellung eines Wissenspools zum Thema Architektur und Wohnen mitwirken. ?ber m?glichst vielf?ltige Zug?nge, Themen, Inhalte und Methoden werden verschiedene Positionen herausgearbeitet, Inhalte diskutiert und infrage gestellt sowie bestehende Architektur- und Wohnkonzepte kritisch beleuchtet, um neue Konzepte, Inhalte und Programme f?r zuk?nftige Bedingungen von Architektur und Wohnen entwickeln zu k?nnen. Cuno Brullmann studierte Architektur an der ETH Z?rich und arbeitete in Den Haag, mit K. Ito in Tokio und bei Arup Associates in London. Von 1972-1974 Mitarbeiter und Projektleiter bei Piano/Rogers in Genua und Paris. Seit 1977 f?hrt er sein eigenes B?ro in Paris, von 1980-1994 war er Professor an der Ecole Sp?ciale d'Architecture. Seit 1995 ist Brullmann ordentlicher Professor an der TU Wien.
