The subject of mobbing recently has taken on great significance in the fields of psychology, medicine and labor law. Yet there is an even more subtle form of mobbing that is more prevalent: The person in question is purposefully and deliberately injured at the workplace, both physically and mentally. The consequences can be severe. For this volume Harald Ege coined the term straining, which he clearly and practically delineates from other conflict-laden strains that occur at work such as stalking, burnout, sexual harassment, glass ceiling or stress. With this definition and the category system developed to help in the classification of conflict-laden strains at the workplace in mind it will be easier to proceed legally against such forms of discrimination.
