He served as the former Assistant Director for Export Development at the Minnesota Trade Office where he received the Governor's Award for his outstanding efforts in initiating a targeted industry export marketing program. He was co-author of a book on how companies can better succeed in the global market, titled Fast-Track Exporting, published by the American Management Association. His company was honored with the U.S Presidential E Award for its outstanding contribution to the export expansion program of the United States. He was awarded a Bush Mid-Career Fellowship to study public policy at Yale University. Winget received his B.S. in commerce and law from the University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign.
