Software defined networking (SDN) is one of the most promising recent developing in the networking. Together with network function virtualization (NFV) it has the potential to automate the networking tasks in a seamless manner. This book introduces the reader to this burgeoning field and explains the basic concepts within a historical context. It should be useful to senior undergraduates, beginning graduate students, and also to anyone curious about this topic.

Dr. Vinod Mishra received PhD in physics from State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook, with area of focus in theoretical nuclear physics. After gaining some research and teaching experience, he joined Lucent Technology Bell Labs and afterwards became a research scientist in US Federal Government. His areas of primary interest are in the application of software defined networking concepts to optical transport and MANET, quantum communication, and quantum information science....
