Honor? de Balzac (1799-1850) was a French novelist, short story writer, playwright, critic, and one of the central figures in the development of literary realism. Born in Tours and later based in Paris, Balzac attempted to capture the full range of French society after the Revolution and under the Restoration and July Monarchy.
