Biographie:
About the AuthorJacob Abbott was an American children's author, educator, minister, and popular historian whose books helped shape nineteenth-century juvenile nonfiction and educational literature. Born in Hallowell, Maine, in 1803, Abbott graduated from Bowdoin College and studied at Andover Theological Seminary before working as a teacher, clergyman, and writer. His career reflected a deep interest in clear instruction, moral education, historical knowledge, and books written in a style that young readers could understand without losing the seriousness of the subject.Abbott became widely known for both his children's fiction and his historical biographies, including works on figures such as Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Cleopatra, Hannibal, Cyrus the Great, Darius the Great, and other major figures of classical and world history. His biographies were designed to make the past accessible through narrative order, memorable incidents, character study, and moral reflection. In Alexander the Great, Abbott presents one of antiquity's most dramatic lives as both a story of conquest and a lesson in ambition, power, leadership, and human limitation. Abbott died in 1879, leaving an extensive body of work central to early American children's literature, juvenile history, moral instruction, and educational biography....
