Excerpt from Program for New Piasa Chautauqua: A Non-Denominational, Non-Commercial, Eleven-Week Summer Assembly Dedicated to Christian Worship, Education and Recreation on the Palisades of the Mississippi River at Chautauqua, Jersey County; Eighty-First Annual Season, June 18-September 5, 1966
Section 3. Non-commercial. It is declared that it shall be the policy of the association to prevent Chautauqua from becoming a commercial or secular enterprise during the period of its commitments. To its cottage members, expiring November 30, 1985.
Section 4. Not for profit. The association shall continue to be operated and conducted Without profit to its shareholders, and the net income, if any, shall not be accumulated for, and be paid to, or inure to the benefit of, its shareholders.
Section 5. Religion. The association shall continue to provide leadership and facilities for religious education and worship services, Christian but non-sectarian in character, as the underlying motif of the organization, and shall permit no sectarian or anti-christian services or activities.
Section 6. Recreation and Retreat. The association shall, in connection with its religious program, provide facilities and leadership for children, and shall Operate and conduct [chautauqua as a peaceful, w'holesome, pleasant and safe place for rest and retreat from the pressures of mod ern living.
