The first Baptist church in England was formed in 1611 These Baptist were known as General Baptist and believed in the Arminian Doctrine that Christ died for all persons.

The first Baptist church in America was formed at Providence, Rhode Island by Roger Williams in 1639. In the early 18003 the mission movement grew among the Baptist in America. Stephen Pleasant organized three mission minded churches into the Beulah Missionary Baptist Association in 1834. The Beulah Association grew to cover much of Rockingham, Stokes, and surrounding areas. As early as the 18403 the Beulah Association had two missionaries, John Robertson and Elias Dodson, serving the areas of their Association.

Pleasant Webster was buying land in Stokes County in December 1851 on the waters of Beaver Island Creek and the deed states the corner of this tract of land began below the meeting house. This is the earliest date we have found mention of said meeting house. Pleasant Webster was a large land owner and owned much of the land in the area of k-fork Road, Dunlap Road, and where 704 highway is today. He is buried at his homeplace just off Hwy. 704.
