This 2020 edition of the revision material has been updated to include new and revised guidelines, correct typographical errors, and reference all chapters as recommended by readers. It replaces the 2019 edition. This small compilation provides aspiring candidates with a glossary of medical terms used in evidence-based medicine, a step-by-step guide to critically appraising articles published in medical journals, and guidelines for searching reports. Critical appraisal aims to help health professionals read research studies objectively by identifying valid and irrelevant points, a report's strengths and weaknesses, and its benefits and limitations. Critical reading of research reports improves the clinician's understanding of the research process.
