Présentation Doctor Thorne Format Broché
- Livre Littérature Générale
Résumé :
Doctor Thorne begins to establish a medical practice, while Henry seduces Mary Scatcherd, the sister of stonemason Roger Scatcherd. When Scatcherd finds out that Mary has become pregnant, he seeks out Henry and, in the ensuing fight, kills him. Anthony Trollope was one of the most successful, prolific and respected English novelists of the Victorian era. Some of his best-loved works, collectively known as the Barchester Chronicles, revolve around the imaginary county of Barsetshire. He also wrote perceptive novels on political, social, and gender issues, and on other topical matters.
Biographie:
Anthony Trollope was an English novelist and government official during the Victorian era. His best-known works include the Chronicles of Barsetshire, a series of novels set in the fictional county of Barsetshire. He also authored novels about politics, social issues, and gender, among other topics. Trollope's literary fame plummeted in his final years, but he regained some popularity by the mid-twentieth century. Anthony Trollope was the son of barrister Thomas Anthony Trollope and Frances Milton Trollope, a novelist and travel writer. Despite being a brilliant and well-educated man and a Fellow of New College, Oxford, Thomas Trollope failed at the Bar because of his nasty temper. Farming ventures proved unproductive, and he missed out on an expected bequest when an elderly childless uncle remarried and had children. Thomas Trollope was the son of Rev. (Thomas) Anthony Trollope, rector of Cottered in Hertfordshire, and the sixth son of Sir Thomas Trollope, 4th Baronet. The baronetcy was later passed down to the descendants of Anthony Trollope's second son, Frederick.
Sommaire:
Renowned for his Chronicles of Barsetshire series and the Palliser novels, Anthony Trollope was a prolific and renowned English novelist. Trollope was born into a middle-class household, but his early years were characterized by chaotic family dynamics and financial hardships. In spite of these obstacles, he succeeded in his career as a civil servant in the British Post Office, where he spent more than thirty years. Published in 1847, Trollope's debut book, The Macdermots of Ballycloran, marked the beginning of his writing career. He proceeded to produce travelogues, non-fiction books, short stories, and 47 novels during his lifetime. The richly detailed portrayal of Victorian life, the astute observation of human nature, and the examination of contemporary moral and social issues define Trollope's writing. His books frequently include nuanced individuals battling social and personal issues against the backdrop of small-town England or the corridors of political power. Trollope is regarded as one of the greatest Victorian novels because of his realistic depiction of ordinary life, complex narratives, and witty writing....
