    • Résumé :
A detailed look at the iconic Class 87 locomotives of British Rail.

When British Rail electrified the West Coast Main Line to Scotland, the Class 87 electric locomotive was born. Built at Crewe Works starting in 1973, these locomotives became a mainstay, known for power and reliability. This book explores their history, from initial passenger service to later freight work and even international use in Bulgaria.

Discover the evolution of these locomotives, including the unique 87/1 subclass with its experimental control system. Learn about their liveries, names, and the dedicated individuals who kept them running. Perfect for railway enthusiasts and anyone interested in British engineering history.

The sole Class 87/1 passed to the Railfreight sector of BR and would eventually find its way into EWS ownership...
