In this book, we find a Florida filled with islands of cannibal snakes; starfish devouring their own flesh; poisonous frogs that may or may not have been weaponized by the government; and New Age cultists diving for Ponce de Leon's lost relics. Ranging freely across poetry, fiction, and anthropology, Gallagher constructs a new nature writing in which partial untruth becomes an essential way of expressing the full horror of the slow-death of our world. Biographie:
Kristen Gallagher's books include Grand Central (Troll Thread 2016) and WE ARE HERE (Truck Books 2011). Recent publications are Dossier on the Site of a Shooting, a multiplatform digital work on Gauss PDF that explores the site of the Trayvon Martin murder; Untitled Rosewood Trip, text with screenshots in Printed Web 3; Florida, a long chapbook from Well Greased Press; and selections from Florida in 6x6. Her essays on the work of Tan Lin appear in Jacket2, Criticism: A Journal for Literature and the Arts, and the collection Reading the Difficulties (University of Alabama Press). Her essay Teaching Freire and CUNY Open Admissions was recently anthologized in Class and the College Classroom: Essays on Teaching and can be found online through Radical Teacher. She is a Professor of English at City University of New York-LaGuardia Community College in Queens, New York.
