Présentation Nothing In Her Way de Charles Williams Format Broché
- Livre Policiers
Résumé :
Nothing in Her Way is a hard-edged crime novel by Charles Williams, built around deception, desire, and the dangerous mathematics of the long con. When Mike Belen returns to the orbit of Cathy, the woman who once betrayed him, he is drawn back into a world of confidence games, double-crosses, false identities, and emotional traps. What begins as a scheme of revenge and profit becomes something colder and more unstable, as old attraction and old resentment blur the line between partnership and betrayal. Charles Williams was one of the great American paperback noir writers of the mid-twentieth century, and Nothing in Her Way shows his gift for lean plotting, damaged characters, and moral pressure. Rather than relying on private detectives or police procedure, the novel moves through the criminal world from the inside, following people who understand fraud, hunger, charm, and self-preservation because those are the tools by which they survive. For readers of classic noir fiction, vintage crime novels, psychological suspense, and authors such as Jim Thompson, David Goodis, Gil Brewer, and Cornell Woolrich, Nothing in Her Way is a sharp, unsentimental work of betrayal and criminal obsession....
Sommaire:
Charles Williams was an American crime novelist and one of the distinctive voices of mid-twentieth-century paperback noir. A former merchant seaman and radio operator, Williams brought to his fiction a sharp sense of drift, danger, money pressure, and compromised survival. His novels are known for their speed, sexual tension, criminal ingenuity, and unsentimental portraits of men and women caught in schemes that often turn against them. He wrote with the clean force of the original paperback era, producing crime fiction that is direct, atmospheric, and psychologically acute.Williams's best-known books include Dead Calm, The Hot Spot, Aground, River Girl, Hell Hath No Fury, and Nothing in Her Way. Several of his novels were adapted for film, and his work has remained of interest to readers of noir fiction, vintage crime novels, suspense fiction, and postwar American paperback originals. Though sometimes less widely remembered than figures such as Jim Thompson or David Goodis, Williams belongs firmly in that same tradition of hard, economical crime writing, where desire, greed, fear, and betrayal drive ordinary people toward disaster....
