    • Résumé :
Propeller Island (1895), a science fiction novel about a massive ship in the Pacific Ocean inhabited entirely by millionaires, was first published as part of the Voyages Extraordinaires. Includes a new introduction by literary scholar Darrell Schweitzer.

      Biographie:
Jules Verne wrote and published over 100 novels, short stories, nonfiction books, essays, and plays-some posthumously. He was born on a small river island in Nantes, France, on February 8th, 1828. His parents, Pierre Verne and Sophie Allotte de La Fu?e, sent Jules to Paris in 1848 to follow in his father's footsteps and become a lawyer. Instead, he developed a love of all things literary and fashioned himself into a prolific and versatile writer. His first novel, Five Weeks in a Balloon, was published in 1863 by publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel and launched Verne's popular career with the Voyages Extraordinaires series of adventure novels, many of which established key elements of the science fiction genre. He was an instant success in France and other parts of Europe and would become a respected literary giant around the world later in the twentieth century. Verne died on March 24th, 1905, in Amiens, France. Verne's most famous works include Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1872). Verne is one of the most translated authors in the world, second only to William Shakespeare, and still holds the prestigious title, the Father of Science Fiction....

      Sommaire:
Jules Gabriel Verne was a French novelist, poet, and playwright, best known for his pioneering work in science fiction and adventure. Born on February 8, 1828, in Nantes, France, he grew up to become one of the most influential writers of the 19th century. Verne's collaboration with the publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel resulted in the famous Voyages extraordinaires, a series of adventurous tales that captured the imagination of readers worldwide. His works, which include classics like Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and Around the World in Eighty Days, are notable for their remarkable foresight into future technological advancements, blending adventure with scientific speculation. Verne was deeply influenced by writers such as Victor Hugo, Alexandre Dumas, and Edgar Allan Poe, whose works helped shape his storytelling style. In 1857, he married Honorine Anne H?b?e Morel, with whom he had one son, Michel Verne. Verne's ability to weave engaging narratives with groundbreaking scientific ideas made him a major figure in literature. He passed away on March 24, 1905, leaving a lasting legacy in both adventure and science fiction genres....
