Writing during a period of political upheaval in nineteenth-century France, Bastiat critiques what he calls legal plunder, the misuse of the legal system to benefit some citizens at the expense of others. Through clear reasoning and forceful prose, he defends the principles of voluntary exchange, individual responsibility, and economic freedom as the foundations of a just social order. Though brief in length, The Law has had a lasting influence on debates about political economy and public policy. Biographie:
Fr?d?ric Bastiat (1801-1850) was a French economist, writer, and member of the French National Assembly whose works became foundational texts in classical liberal economic thought. Best known for essays such as The Law and What Is Seen and What Is Not Seen, Bastiat argued forcefully for free markets, limited government, and the protection of individual liberty. His clear and accessible writing helped popularize economic ideas and continues to influence debates about economics, law, and political philosophy....
