The original version of this classic novel confiscated by the Russian secret services in 1949 before it was rediscovered in the Russian archives. It provides a fascinating account of life on the front line, based on real-life experiences of the true horror of war. Includes an appendix by Carsten Gansel who tells the story behind both the 1957 edition and the discovery of its original version.
Biographie:
Heinrich Gerlach (1908?1991) served as a lieutenant in the 14th Panzer Division at Stalingrad. Wounded and then captured by the Soviets, he wrote Breakout at Stalingrad while being held in captivity in the USSR. He died in 1991.
