As Paul pens his letter to the Romans, he naturally expresses the good news of salvation in a format suitable for his message, salvation for both Jews and Gentiles in the context of God's righteousness. To understand the letter's structure is to have valuable clues to the meaning of its message. Often this structure goes unrecognized and the light it can shed on the meaning is missed. Romans contains several difficult passages whose meaning is clarified when their role in the structure is recognized. Romans - Its Form and Message, is both a commentary and a teaching tool. As a commentary, it takes full advantage of the light that the structure sheds upon the meaning of the text. As a teaching tool, it presents the structure in a way that is both instructive and memorable. Throughout, it keeps the structure before the reader, with generous use of tables and diagrams, and a context reminder with each new Scripture passage. The reader always knows the context of the current passage, and why Paul is saying what he says. From time to time, a commentary is written that captures the essence of the Apostle Paul's heart, which is to present the glorious holiness, righteousness, and goodness of God according to the TRUTH. This volume flows like a river; it has understandable depth, and where the river meets the shore one can bask in the knowledge and application of God's love for both Jew and Gentile equally. It is the best personal teaching commentary on the book of Romans that I've ever read! Terry Berreth, Pastor, Crossroads Church Romans: Its Form and Message provides an excellent analysis of this important epistle. It reflects solid inductive study, as well as a well-reasoned and thorough outline that helps make sense of Paul's argument. Pastor Tim Jack
