Biographie:
Jérôme Assire is a writer and journalist residing in Paris. His love of good bread dates from his childhood in Paris during the 1960's, when he lived next door to a tradional bakery. A renowned food connoisseur, in this volume he has applied the skills of a historian and a sociologist to explore all the practical and symbolic facets of bread. Bernard Clavel, who contributed the introduction, is the author of over sixty books which have been translated into numerous languages. Originally a baker by trade, like his father and grandfather, he was awarded the Prix Goncourt for his novel, Les Fruits de l'hiver.
