Biographie:
MELISSA ANN WOOD is a multidisciplinary visual artist who utilizes a broad range of media: paintings on canvas; photographs; fabric and wire mixed media installations; assemblage boxes and sculpture; and works on paper. She received her BFA from Washington University School of Fine Art in St. Louis with an emphasis in printmaking. Her exhibition venues have included the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, Anchorage Museum of History and Art (Alaska), The Collectors Gallery at the Oakland Museum of California, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Artists Gallery, and Crocker Art Museum (Sacramento). She was chosen in 1993 for a Women's Studio Workshop (New York) fellowship to explore cliche verre, a rare alternative photographic medium. Wood was awarded a 2003 residency at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF) exhibiting and demonstrating her work at the de Young Art Center and the Legion of Honor. Her mixed media triptych, produced in the FAMSF residency, was chosen in 2005 by the Bolinas Art Museum for a survey of modern abstract art. Her photographic mixed media paintings were included in the 2005 SFMOMA Artists Gallery New Photography survey. Wood's solo hive installations were exhibited in 2006 at the Davis Art Center and in 2008 at The FireHouse Gallery in southern Oregon. Melissa Wood's work on canvas was chosen by curator Natalie Nelson for the Pence Gallerys 2009 exhibition, The Uncommon Object: Contemporary Still Life. Solo exhibitions of her work were shown at International House, Davis, CA in October 2010 and at the Pence Gallery in Davis, June - August, 2011. http://melissawoodart.com/
