Kenneth Savidge is a retired television producer who joined the BBC West Region in 1954 and later worked for the television services of Libya and Pakistan as consultant and advisor. For the BBC he produced the series John Betjeman's ABC of Churches, Betjeman's Belfast, Betjeman's Dublin and others. It was the distant sight of Mount Etna seen far-off from Malta that prompted his first visit to Sicily in 1960 and began an enduring fascination with the island that has led to many subsequent visits.
