Présentation Le Morte D'arthur - Vol. 2 - de Malory, Thomas Format Broché
- Livre Fantastique
Résumé :
Le Morte D'Arthur -Vol. 2- continues Thomas Malory's great English gathering of the legends of King Arthur, Sir Lancelot, Queen Guinevere, the Knights of the Round Table, and the fall of Camelot. Drawing on French and English romance traditions, Malory shaped the Arthurian cycle into one of the central works of medieval English literature: a world of chivalry, quests, vows, betrayals, marvels, tournaments, spiritual trial, courtly love, and tragic collapse. Volume 2 contains some of the most powerful later movements of the Arthurian story, including the deepening of Lancelot and Guinevere's tragedy, the quest for the Holy Grail, and the forces that lead toward the death of Arthur. First printed by William Caxton in 1485, Le Morte D'Arthur became the foundation for much later English-language Arthurian literature. Its influence runs through poetry, fantasy, historical romance, medieval studies, and modern retellings of the Matter of Britain. For readers of classic literature, medieval romance, Arthurian legend, chivalric adventure, literary fantasy, and the history of English storytelling, Malory's work remains one of the indispensable sources for the legend of Camelot....
Sommaire:
Sir Thomas Malory was the fifteenth-century English author and compiler traditionally credited with Le Morte D'Arthur, the great prose synthesis of Arthurian legend in English. Little about Malory's life is certain, though he is generally associated with the turbulent world of late medieval England and the Wars of the Roses. Drawing from French romances, English Arthurian materials, and earlier legendary traditions, Malory reshaped the stories of King Arthur, Sir Lancelot, Queen Guinevere, Merlin, Sir Tristram, the Holy Grail, and the Knights of the Round Table into a connected narrative of chivalric idealism and tragic decline.Le Morte D'Arthur was completed around 1470 and first printed by William Caxton in 1485, making it one of the most important early printed works of English literature. Malory's version became the dominant English-language account of the Arthurian cycle and profoundly influenced later writers, artists, poets, fantasy authors, and medieval revivalists. Its mixture of adventure, moral testing, spiritual quest, courtly love, betrayal, and elegiac loss helped define the enduring image of Camelot and remains central to the study of medieval romance, Arthurian legend, chivalry, and classic English fiction....
