Composed in clear, direct prose, The Gallic Wars (Commentarii de Bello Gallico) records the series of conflicts fought between 58 and 50 BCE, in which Caesar expanded Roman control across what is now France and parts of Western Europe. The work serves both as historical chronicle and as carefully shaped political narrative, presenting Caesar's leadership, strategy, and justification for war to a Roman audience.
