Résumé :
Excerpt from Hans Sachs and Goethe: A Study in Meter; A Dissertation Submitted to the Board of University Studies of the Johns Hopkins University in Conformity With the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy
Sommer, too, has done what has been followed to a greater or less degree by every critic, Saran being the exception; that is, he has given as illustrations of Hans Sachs' meter, one hundred and twenty-five pages of isolated verses, as though the poet had built up his strophes and even rhymed couplets by joining one line to a preceding one without any connection of thought or of rhythm. In a very few cases he has given us several verses together, but then it is to show the number of syllables to a verse, the breaking of the rhyme, or the en jambment. It is no wonder that Paul2 dealt with him so nu mercifully on the ground of presentation and historical deve lopment of theme.
