The following pages provide only glimpses of a notable part of the population of the United States. No matter how expert and sensitive the reporter nor how large the book, one treatment cannot possibly do justice to Spanish Americans. There are a million of them in Texas, ia' California, in New Mexico, in both Arizona and Colorado, in New York, plus a scattered half million of illegal entrants. Add to these the Cubans in Tampa and visiting stu dents from every Latin American country. Such figures merely illus trate the weakness of arithmetic to bring a sense of reality to the description of a people.
