In this shrewd and penetrating book, the author, a political expert who has been high in the councils of both the Democratic and Republican parties, makes an appeal of the present administration, with sharply etched portraits of the men around the President. He has done for the New Republicans on the Potomac what he did years ago for the Roosevelt Administration in his provocative New Dealers, which enjoyed a nationwide acceptance, selling more than 600,000 copies. Originally published in 1953. John Franklin Carter (1897 - 1967), writing under the pen name Jay Franklin, was an American journalist, as well as a novelist and biographer. He worked in various positions in the federal government, and in 1948 became a speech writer for Harry S. Truman. His close work with many members of the government caused his novels to be centered around foreign affairs and diplomatic work. Republicans on the Potomac details the Eisenhower presidency and the Republican victories during the term.
