National Geographic has described Don George as a legendary travel writer and editor. Don has been exploring new frontiers as an author, editor and adventurer for more than 30 years. Currently Editor at Large and Book Columnist for National Geographic Traveler magazine, Features Editor and blogger for Gadling dot com, Editor of Recce : Literary Journeys for the Discerning Traveler and host of the Adventure Collection's blog, The Adventurous Traveler, Don has also been Global Travel Editor for Lonely Planet, Travel Editor at the San Francisco Examiner & Chronicle and founder and Editor of Salon dot com's Wanderlust travel site. Don's stories have been selected to appear in numerous collections, and he has edited nine travel anthologies, including Lonely Planet's acclaimed Better Titan Fiction, The Kindness of Strangers, By the Seat of My Pants, and Tales from Nowhere. Don has won numerous awards for his writing and editing, including the Society of American Travel Writers' Lowell Thomas Award. Don has lectured on travel writing and travel literature at conferences and workshops around the world. He has been a visiting lecturer in travel writing at the University of California, Berkeley, Graduate School of Journalism, and is the co-founder and chairman of the Book Passage Travel Writers & Photographers Conference, held annually near San Francisco. Complementing his travel writing and editing, Don often appears as a travel expert on TV and radio and in print, and hosts a national series of onstage conversations with prominent travel writers and adventurers. Don has visited more than 75 countries and has worked as a translator in Paris, a teacher in Athens, and a television talk-show host in Tokyo. He lives in the San Francisco area with his wife . their two children are now embarked on their own worldly adventures, but still occasionally make buoyant visits home.
