Présentation Pro Rege (Volume 2) de Abraham Kuyper Format Relié
- Livre Sciences de la vie et de la terre
Résumé :
Abraham Kuyper firmly believed that Jesus Christ is King not just of Christians, but of the entire cosmos.
In volume two of Pro Rege, he continues his analysis of the extent to which Christ rules--first in the human heart, then in the life of the church, and continuing to the life of the Christian family. Kuyper believed that it was nonsense to distinguish between life inside and outside of church walls. Here, he shows that although Jesus' kingship has been denied and denigrated, Christ still exerts his power in the world through his people.
This translation of Pro Rege, created in partnership with the Abraham Kuyper Translation Society and the Acton Institute, is part of a major series of translations of Kuyper's most important writings. The Abraham Kuyper Collected Works in Public Theology marks a historic moment in Kuyper studies, aimed at deepening and enriching the church's development of public theology....
Biographie:
Abraham Kuyper (1837-1920) was one of the most extraordinary individuals of his time. A prolific intellectual and theologian, he founded the Free University in Amsterdam and was instrumental in the development of Neo-Calvinism. He was also an active politician, serving as a member of Parliament in the Netherlands beginning in 1874 and serving as Prime Minister from 1901 to 1905. At this intersection of church and state, he devoted much of his writing toward developing a public theology. His passion was to faithfully understand and engage culture through a Christian worldview. The most famous example is his articulation of the doctrine of common grace. His work has influenced countless others, including Francis Schaeffer, Cornelius Van Til, and Alvin Plantinga....
Sommaire:
Abraham Kuyper (1837-1920) was a leading Dutch figure in education, politics, and theology. A minister in the Dutch Reformed Church, he served in Parliament and later as prime minister of the Netherlands. Kuyper also founded the Free University (VU) in Amsterdam, a political party, and a denomination, and he wrote prolifically on a wide range of subjects.
John H. Kok (PhD, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) is professor emeritus of philosophy at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, and managing director of Dordt College Press. He previously served as dean for research and scholarship and as director of the Andreas Center for Reformed Scholarship and Service until his retirement in 2014. He is the author, editor, and translator of numerous works, including studies of and writings by D. H. Th. Vollenhoven, one of the founders of Reformational philosophy, as well as Vollenhoven's student and Kok's mentor, Calvin Seerveld.
Albert Gootjes (PhD, Calvin Theological Seminary) is a postdoctoral researcher in the Spinoza's Web project with the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Utrecht University. He is currently working on an intellectual biography of the physician, philosopher, and theologian Lambertus van Velthuysen (1622-1685) and his Utrecht Cartesian network (the Collegie der s?avanten). Gootjes is the author of Claude Pajon (1626-1685) and the Academy of Saumur: The First Controversy over Grace (Brill) and has translated numerous works in Reformation history and theology....
