It is a much less pretentious map than that drawn by Fra Mauro,2 but it is of almost equal date and not second to it in scientific importance. There is evidence that its author was better informed on certain geographical mat ters than was the monk of Murano, as, for example, con cerning certain European, African, and Indian contour features, and that the peculiar form he chose for his map had less in?uence in leading him to distort what could then be called remote regions than had the circular form which Fra Mauro chose.
