Présentation Patchwork And Quilting In Britain de Heather Audin Format Broché

Résumé :
Patchwork quilts are hugely evocative emblems of our domestic past. With no two quite the same, each example hints both at the story of the particular household in which it was produced and at a larger piece of social history. But quilting is by no means only historical, with the craft seeing a huge revival in popularity in recent years, and items that were once made for purely utilitarian and practical reasons are now produced and appreciated for the connection they afford us to a rich vein of heritage and nostalgia. Illustrated with a stunning range of examples from the Quilters' Guild Collection - of which the author is curator - this book is a wonderful introduction to a hugely important aspect of British domestic history....
Biographie:
The Quilt Museum and Gallery is run by The Quilters' Guild of the British Isles, an educational charity and a membership organisation that has nearly 7000 members across the nation. The Museum is housed at St. Anthony's Hall, a Medieval Guildhall in the heart of the historic city of York. The Museum Collection numbers around 800 objects, which include quilts and coverlets as well as quilted costume, domestic items, tools and templates relating to the history of the allied crafts of patchwork, quilting and applique. The collection has steadily grown since the formation of the Guild in 1979, and contains a wide range of items dating from the earliest known dated patchwork coverlet in 1718 to a contemporary collection representing the foremost recognised quilt artists of today. The changing exhibition programme allows us to provide access to different items and styles of objects within our collection, and ensures we can display an interesting contrast of historical and contemporary pieces at the same time within our two main exhibition spaces. Heather Audin has worked for the Quilters Guild as curator since the museum opened in 2008, where she is responsible for care of collections, writing and organising exhibitions and answering public enquiries on the historic collections. She has a background in museums and has documented a large range of museum collections including social history, costume and textiles. She also has a personal interest in historic costume, is a keen sewer and dabbles in patchwork in her spare time!
