Imagine Not Drowning considers what it means to toss back our heads and allow the water inward. These poems go far beyond traditional myth structures and into spaces courting ugly sex and wild wings unfurling. There are beaks snaking between thighs and sweaters whirling down slow to rest in our dirt and sand. Poetry continually asks us to define home and our place in a world too often oblivious to our desires. The poems in this collection offer questions whose answers are suggested peripherally, on how to differentiate between our needs and our vicious, predatory wants. Biographie:
Kelli Allen's work has appeared in numerous journals in the US and internationally. She served as Managing Editor of Natural Bridge, is the Poetry Editor for The Lindenwood Review, and directs River Styx's Hungry Young Poets Series. She is a Professor of Humanities/Creative Writing at Lindenwood University. Her chapbook, Some Animals, won the 2016 Etchings Press Prize. Her chapbook, How We Disappear, won the 2016 Damfino Press chapbook award. Her newest full-length is IMAGINE NOT DROWNING (C&R Press, 2017). Her poetry collection Otherwise, Soft White Ash (John Gosslee Books, 2012) was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.
