In 1907, five years before Arizona's statehood, Walter Gist Tolleson and his wife, Alethea, chose the dry Arizona Territory for their sick son. In 1910, they purchased and later subdivided 160 acres just 10 miles from a young settlement known as Phoenix. And in 1912, the town of Tolleson was born. By the 1940s and 1950s, the community had become the Vegetable Center of the World. The area that was once an agricultural mecca is now divided by suburban sprawl, but Tolleson's original spirit remains. It is bustling with growing schools and industry, as well as world-class sports, shopping, and entertainment facilities, all surrounding a 6-square-mile community with small-town pride. That inexhaustible spirit continues to make Tolleson one of the greatest places in the country to live.
Biographie:
Jim Green is a writer and educator. In 2004 the Tolleson Union High School District of Tolleson, Arizona honored him by naming the district's Continuing Education Academy after him. Jim has been an educator and coach in the Arizona schools for over forty years. He is an avid sportsman and athlete having pitched on seven Senior Softball National Championship teams. As well, Jim has explored on foot and on horseback the deserts and the mountains of the Southwest. He has written six young adult novels currently being published by Wings. They are: Dream Chasers; Night Whispers... A Basketball Story; The Ghost Dancer; Shadows Of The Moon... Dancing; Across the Thin White Lines and Children of the Bones

He is currently a Principal Designer Consultant in the Renewables Sector and has lived a life of exciting times and survived into his seventies after a life of extreme challenges, including a near-fatal heart attack in 2022 and subsequent triple heart bypass. He has been able to overcome threats to his life and bankruptcy, and puts down his resilience and progressive approach to life were down to his life experiences in Ferguslie Park....
