Résumé :
Excerpt from Les Romanesques: Com?die En Trois Actes, En Vers
IN preparing this little book for schools and colleges, I have been impressed by the poetic excellence and dramatic genius of Edmond Rostand, the beauty and freshness of his plays, and their general educational merit. Les Roma nesques, though in a diction often as eloquent and ravish ing as the most exquisite passages of Romeo and Juliet,' is only a literary tri?e light as air a delightful comedy withal, light in plot, and fascinating by the quality of its ?eeting, fantastic, and at times exuberant verse. The play is here given critical consideration: the historical and literary allusions, the vocabulary and turns of expression peculiar to Rostand, and the more difficult French idioms are explained in the Notes. The Introduction is intended to acquaint the reader with the author and to excite the student's interest in his dramatic work.
