IT is not his intention, in this prefatory ad drefs, to fay any thing upon'the quefiion con cerning the advantage and difadvantage' of 'entails. Upon that quefiion, very different opinions 'have: been maintained by able writers,-fome extolling them, as the only means Of preferving' ancient fa milies, the pillars of civil fociety, - and Others de crying them, as inconfifient 'witll commercial pro fperity. Perhaps, a middle opinion may be formed.
