Animal welfare science has expanded substantially over the last few decades. Historically a fringe concern, the welfare of the animals in our care is now a key consideration for owners, agricultural industry workers and consumers alike. Biographie:
Donald M. Broom, Emeritus Professor of Animal Welfare, Cambridge University, Department of Veterinary Medicine, has developed concepts and methods of the scientific assessment of welfare and studied: cognitive abilities of animals, the welfare of animals in relation to housing and transport, abnormal behaviour in humans and other species, attitudes to animals, sustainable livestock production and ethics of animal usage. He has published over 400 refereed papers and 12 books including: Stress and Animal Welfare (2nd edition 2019 Springer), The Evolution of Morality and Religion (2003 CUP), Sentience and Animal Welfare (2014 CABI), Tourism and Animal Welfare (2018 CABI) and Domestic Animal Behaviour and Welfare (6th edition 2022 CABI), ....
