    • Résumé :
For fans of Helen MacDonald and memoirs about families and hardship, trauma and love.

Wheeling Through Sand by Catherine Grant traces three generations of mothers and children, revealing how love, resilience and changing social attitudes towards disability shape a family's history.

Mabel Howe longed to be the mother her children deserved, but life with an unreliable husband kept her forever on the move.

In the spaces where the care of her daughter fell short, others stepped in: a steadfast older sister, a quietly protective aunt, and strangers whose unexpected kindness helped a young girl grow strong.

This memoir if a story of hardship transformed into hope - a testament to the many forms mothering can take and the strength that rises from it.

Now a mother and grandmother herself, Catherine Grant writes with clarity, compassion and gratitude, offering a deeply personal celebration of the woman who shaped her life in ways she only came to understand years later.

A brilliantly imagined and beautifully written tribute to a life of challenges and difficulties in which the grace of God shines amid the shadows. J.John...

      Biographie:

Catherine Grant is a debut author. Born in Bristol, she trained as a nurse at Great Ormond Street and Charing Cross hospitals in London, later becoming a health visitor. She was instrumental in founding The Mucopolysaccharide Society and co-founded Restore Hope Latimer, a charity working with families and young people for which she is a parenting course facilitator.

Together with her husband she founded The Entertainer chain of toy stores, an international family business recently transferred into an Employee Ownership Trust. They live in Buckinghamshire and have four children and ten grandchildren. When not finding time to write, Catherine enjoys watching the ebb and flow of the tide at a Dorset beach hut, visiting the Channel Islands to walk and write, and teaching her grandchildren to cook.
