Remove all dirt, grease, oil, salt, and chemical contaminants by washing the surface with a commercial detergent, or other suitable cleaning method. Rinse with fresh water and allow to thoroughly dry. Remove loose paint and rust with a wire brush or sandpaper. Lightly sand glossy surfaces. WARNING! If you scrape, sand, or remove old paint from any surface, you may release lead paint dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE; ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. |

Use of a Rust-Oleum latex primer provides superior adhesion and hiding and is especially recommended for bare wood and metal, paperboard, and hardboard. Apply Chalkboard paint 2 hours after applying primer. After priming bare wood, sand lightly to smooth out the surface. Use when temperature is between 50°F (10°C) and 90°F (32°C) and humidity is below 85% to ensure proper drying. Stir thoroughly. Thinning is not required. In hot, dry conditions, however, you may thin up to 2-oz. water per quart to extend dry time. Use a good quality synthetic brush, 1/4¿-3/8¿ nap roller or a foam roller designed to give a smooth finish. Avoid excessive brushing or rolling. Use light, even strokes to ensure an even flow and the smoothest finish. |
