        The evolution of dental materials has always paralleled advances in material sciences. Historically, dentistry relied on metals, ivory, ceramics, and later composites, but each of these materials revealed limitations in durability, adaptability, and biofunctionality. The development of smart materials marks a paradigm shift in pediatric dentistry. Smart materials are those that can respond to environmental stimuli such as pH, temperature, mechanical stress, or biochemical changes in a predictable and beneficial way. Their integration has transformed clinical dentistry by offering minimally invasive, biocompatible, and long-lasting solutions. Pediatric dentistry especially benefits from these materials because children's oral environments are dynamic, with higher caries susceptibility, developing dentition, and behavioral considerations. Smart materials reduce the need for frequent replacements, enhance comfort, and promote preventive approaches. They support the philosophy of minimally invasive dentistry by encouraging tissue preservation while actively responding to the oral environment....

        I am Dr. Sai Preethi a postgraduate student in Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry in Rajahmundry. My academic focus is on preventive and minimally invasive approaches for children's oral health. My dissertation on Smart Materials in Pediatric Dentistry reflects my interest in innovative biomaterials and their clinical applications....
