Reconstructive surgery is a type of plastic surgery. It is concerned with the restoration of the form and function of some specific part of the body. Reconstructive surgery is often performed by plastic surgeons, maxillo-facial surgeons and otolaryngologists to reconstruct or restore the body parts after trauma or cancer. In reconstructive surgery, surgeons often use the concept of a reconstructive ladder in order to manage increasingly complex wounds.
