Since 1923 the Sammlung Tusculum has published authoritative editions of Greek and Latin works together with a German translation. The original texts are comprehensively annotated, and feature an introductory chapter. Sommaire: Die Apocolocyntosis, ?berliefert unter dem Namen Senecas des J?ngeren, ist ein zwar kurzer, daf?r aber umso boshafterer Text ?ber die Verg?ttlichung des Kaisers Claudius, dessen Eigenheiten und Schw?chen hier bis ins Absurdeste karikiert werden. In der Tradition der Menippeischen Satire wechseln sich Prosa- und Verspartien ab, das Register reicht vom sublimen Epos bis zum Vulg?rsten. Da den Rezipienten nicht nur intime Kenntnis der ganzen, immer wieder in Anspielungen aufgerufenen lateinischen Literatur, sondern auch der h?chsten Gesellschaftskreise Roms zur Mitte des ersten nachchristlichen Jahrhunderts abverlangt werden, ist der vorliegenden ?bersetzung ein Kommentar beigegeben, um f?r das Verst?ndnis des mitunter schlecht ?berlieferten Textes ein erstes Hilfsmittel zu bieten. Enthalten ist au?erdem ein Essay von Niklas Holzberg, in dem die delikate Frage der Autorschaft thematisiert wird.
