In addition to his own name, he wrote under various pseudonyms, including Elizabeth Deare Bennett, Matt Lee, Jacques Jean Ferrat, and Carter Sprague. His works were recognized for their suspenseful plots and intricate character developments. Merwin's mystery novels and science fiction stories often explored psychological depth, while his science fiction works like Nightmare Tower demonstrated his skill at combining speculative elements with intense human emotions.
